Part: A
During the Great Depression people had all different kinds of difficulties that they had to endure. Sometimes people did have jobs, but those jobs were very dangerous. Some people like Chris Thorsten and Mr. Garavelli had problems like that. Iron WorkerThorsten worked on the construction of bridges and at on point he was almost killed while working. After the accident he was not able to do anything for four years. Mr. Garavelli StonecutterMr. Garavelli was not injured but he still worked in horrible conditions. At his job he had to work with silica dust in the air that ended up kill lots of people after years of exposure to it. Some people had to face other challenges such as discrimination. Packing House Worker Jim cole was an African American who worked as a butcher and wanted to join a union but was denied acceptance because of the color of his skin. Mill Worker Alice Caudle was a woman working in a mill and she kept get promoted as far as she could but just because she was a woman she only able to get so far in her caree at the mill.

There were many different types of people during the Great Depression and they all have a different way of making a living. Jim Lewis was an African American who collected turpentine from trees to make money during the Great Depression. Jim Davis traveled to America when he was young and during the early 1930's he was a truck driver but the company went out of business and he did odd jobs to make money. Eventually he got another job at another company as a truck driver but for a little less pay.
